French and Australian artists enliven the Yogyakarta Gamelan Festival

Gamelan became one of the icons and potential of Javanese culture, especially Jogjakarta. Thus, as a City of Culture, Jogjakarta has an obligation to continue to cultivate its cultural potential.

One effort to preserve the culture is realized in Yogyakarta Gamelan Festival (YGF). This year YGF enters its 22nd year. This event was held July 21-23, 2017.

Traditional music lovers will be spoiled again by the sound of gamelan through activities held at Koesnadi Hardjasoemantri Cultural Center (PKKH), Bulaksumur, UGM. As in previous years, this event became a show of gamelan musicians from several countries.

"Not only from Indonesia alone" said Manager of Culture Center Koesnadi Hardjasoemantri (PKKH) UGM Aisyah Hilal.

In detail, Aisyah said the attendees who attended were Sekar Laras from Australia, Balungan from France and Jogja, David Kotlowy and Friends from Australia and Jogja, Djomblo Ensemble from Malang, Icipili Mitirimin from Jogja, Gamelan Anak from East Java, Andi Orchestra From Jogja, Ati Lunchroom from Pamekasan and Gamelan Sanata Dharma from Jogja.

The visitors of YGF 22 are not only able to enjoy gamelan performance but also can enjoy the exhibition and follow the workshop. So through this festival, traditional music enthusiasts can solemnly enjoy the music as well as can add insight by seeing the exhibition as well as following workshops or workshops.
