Government of Banyuwangi Regency Holds Mass Marriage

The number of married couples (couples) who are not married by law, make the Banyuwangi Government intervene. A total of 112 couples married massively in the local government yard, Friday (28/7).

The central office yard was transformed into a wedding reception location. The gate is adorned with a leafy curve, like a person who is holding a celebration. A magnificent awning standing in the middle of the yard is set up for hundreds of couples.

Interestingly, couples who follow this marriage istbat from various ages, ranging from age 30 to 70 years. Isbat marriage is the endorsement of marriages that have been held according to the Shari'a of Islam, but not recorded by KUA.

One of the oldest couples is Masduki (72) and Jariyah (43) from Kelurahan Kertosari, Banyuwangi District. With happy face, they came to the location, escorted their family. Even paraded troops rebana while riding a pedicab.

"Alhamdulillah, there is a free marriage trial hearing from the regent. Finally, I can get the birth certificate, because next year is going to go to school, "said Masduki who has been married 17 years.

The same is also expressed couple Samukti (74) and Cheap (47) from Sumbergondo Village, Glenmore District. The couple, married 18 years ago, admitted that they have not legally registered their marriage in KUA because of cost factor. Understandably, Samukti daily work as a farm laborer.

"From the first when the child asked for the deed (birth), I just stroked the chest, for not having a marriage book. Alhamdulillah, this is my child can have birth certificate, "he said.

Meanwhile, Banyuwangi Regent Abdullah Azwar Anas said that mass marriage through thisbah trial is a form of ease of service to the community, especially the poor who will legalize marriage.

"Through this marriage isbat, they will get legal certainty over the bond of marriage, status in the family card will be clear. It will also facilitate their children who need official documents of population, "he explained.

The previous year, similar activities were held in the sub-district. This year, deliberately held in the yard of the district government.

Anas continued, every married couple will not only get marriage certificate. But obtain other resident documents. Such as Family Card (KK), Identity Card (KTP), and birth certificate, and new Child Identity Card.

"All the documents will be directly submitted. So people no longer need to take care of their new population documents, "explained Anas.

The entire cost of this marriage is free. If through the Religious Courts cost around Rp 600,000.
