Kemenkominfo Revoke Telegram Blocking This Week

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology will soon lift the blocking of social networking site Telegram this week.

Certainty comes after the meeting between the Minister of Communications and Informatics (Menkominfo) Rudiantara with Telegram CEO, Pavel Durov, at the Office of the Ministry of Communications and Informatics, Tuesday (1/8).

The meeting was a follow up of the Ministry of Communications and Informatics policy that disable Telegram's 11 Domain Name System (DNS) services on July 14, 2017. One of the discussions was about handling terrorism issues and radical content that developed in the Telegram platform.

"I appreciate Telegram is very responsive in addressing this issue," said Rudiantara.

Meanwhile, Telegram CEO Pavel Durov admitted that his side are also concerned with the threat of global terrorism. For that reason, he is committed to participate in combating radical development with the Indonesian Government.

"It is important for the Government of Indonesia and Telegram to create a Joint Statement in this regard," Durov explained.

On the commitment of Telegram, the Director General of Information Application Samuel A Pangerapan ensure that the blocking of Telegram will be revoked immediately.

"This week will soon be restored," he said.
