Bring 14.23 grams marijuana, French tourists prosecuted 5 years in prison

Just because carrying marijuana weighing 14.23 grams, a French tourist named Anthony Fabien Georges Lambert (23) prosecuted 5 years in prison by the Prosecutor General (Prosecutor) I Dewa Gede Anom Rai. this was revealed in a court hearing on Thursday (9/11) yesterday.

"Appeal to the panel of judges to punish the defendant with imprisonment for 5 years," said Attorney from Kejati Bali.

In addition to demanding prison sentences, prosecutors also demanded the defendant to pay a fine of Rp 1 billion.

"If not paid is replaced with imprisonment for 6 months," said the prosecutor as stated in the letter of demand.

On the charges, the defendant through his interpreter said he would file a plea at the hearing next week.

"The defendant said he would present his defense," he said.

As revealed in the facts of the trial, the defendant was arrested on 13 June 2017 at the International arrival terminal of Ngurah Rai Airport at around 19.00.We arrived from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The arrest of the defendant stemmed from the suspicion of the Customs officer with the defendant's gesture that was carrying a blue suitcase.

Upon suspicion the officer immediately checked the bag of the defendant by using the X-Ray machine.

"From the inspection of X-Ray machine, there appears to be a suspicious object in the suitcase of the defendant," said the prosecutor.

On the findings, the Customs officer immediately dismantled the suitcase bag of the defendant. When opened, officers found dry marijuana which weighed after weighing up to 14.23 grams net. To the officer, the defendant admitted that marijuana belonged to him obtained from his theme in India. (R)
